Responsive Web Design in Indianapolis Improves User Accessibility

by Joshua Roberson @ IndianapolisSEOFirm

More and more people are accessing the Internet through their mobile devices, so it’s critical for websites to actually work on these mobile platforms to be any effective. Moreover, websites accessible on mobile gadgets must have the capability to adapt to the users’ unique search preferences. The Business 2 Community website has a curious news feature dated March 9, 2014 that discusses the importance of responsive web design, and how it helps localize the site for users. The article outlines the benefits of a responsive web design: “Responsive Web design is a hot topic—and it’s grabbed the attention of software developers, marketers and CEOs alike. (With the stats we mentioned earlier, it’s easy to see why.) But what is it exactly? In essence it’s a website design approach that allows your website to fluidly adapt for viewing on mobile devices like smartphones and tablets. It has some pretty solid benefits: Responsive Web design creates a more positive user experience for mobile users. It helps your website load faster and makes websites easier to navigate on mobile devices. Websites designed this way—rather than having a separate landing page for mobile—are also favored by search engines, increasing your site’s findability. The concept goes […]

Ways to Pull off Effective Social Media Marketing in Indianapolis

by Joshua Roberson @ IndianapolisSEOFirm

Social media is pretty much a major part of everyday life now – so much so that more than 70% of online American adults today use it. Then again, many polls also show that just about 33% of American users have taken to following brands through the social media as of 2012; while this is a considerable enough jump from 16% in 2010, this proves that there is still room for expansion in the Indianapolis social media marketing industry. As a business owner, how can you help promote your brand through social media? It’s all about You You need to establish your business’ identity in social media sites, and they have to be able to synch up with who you are and what your brand does in the real world. In other words, always stick to your industry whenever you post, promote, or share content. Efficient brand marketing makes for a consistent, reliable social media profile. Pick out a Target Here are some tips from an article in Forbes on honing in on your target market through social media: “To get focused, start with your ideal community. You need to know who they are, where they show up on the […]

Mobile Sites and Responsive Sites

by Chris Claghorn @ ITI – Indiana Technical Installations

Mobile Sites and Responsive Sites First let’s discuss the difference between mobile sites and responsive sites. A mobile website is a website that is specifically design for mobile phones. It tends to contain less pages than the main site and usually offers resources specific to someone who is on the go. This visitor is most likely looking to find your location or phone number. They may also be interested in your products and services so don’t limit the contents of your mobile site to just a phone number and contact info. Some businesses prefer to have a mobile landing page along with there website, responsive or not. A responsive site is a single website that appears differently to each visitor based on the size of the device they’re using. During the development of a responsive website, specific rules are written that say ‘if the screen is less than X, display these elements this way’. The key thing to keep in mind with a responsive website is that elements can change size, get replaced, moved to another location of the page, or be removed altogether, all dependent on the size of the visitors screen. For example, a large sliding banner looks great in a desktop computer, but takes up far too much space on a mobile site. With a responsive site this sliding banner will be resized accordingly so it will not dominate the entire screen. Responsive websites are able to offer everything that a separate mobile site can offer and so much more. The time it takes to make a website responsive is equal to the amount of time it would take to develop a mobile website. Furthermore, it is less time consuming to maintain a single responsive site than it is to develop a full website and a mobile website. I prefer responsive over mobile, simply because the amount of work involved is practically the same and you can have a site that looks great on any platform. Adding a mobile landing page is recommended to any site to maximize traffic. If you are wanting your site to be redeveloped into a responsive grid layout let us know by giving us a call at 260-824-2488 and/or fill out our Contact Form.

2014 Predictions for SEO throughout Indianapolis and the Entire Web

by Joshua Roberson @ IndianapolisSEOFirm

With the continuous expansion of search engine optimization (SEO) and its growing popularity among businesses today, numerous IT experts have plotted some predictions about the search engine technology that are likely to make headways as 2014 advances along. Writing for SearchEngineWatch.com, Eric Enge enumerates the predictions, as follows: The rise of Google’s Hummingbird engine: the newest SEO innovation is bound to have its’ presence felt this 2014 – with regards to more efficient processing of searches. Author/publisher ranks: Search engines are bound to display link publisher ranking, making it easier for the net surfer to judge which links are bogus and which is not, allowing for much thorough searches. Natural language search: Search engines will now be able to understand spoken language put in writing. The forecasts above are just some of the innovations that will make web-surfing deeper, broader, and much more comprehensive. While search engines are already efficiently publishing relevant results almost instantly, they are bound to only get better. Businesses that create enough online traffic and garner better author/publisher rankings will be the ones to top most results pages, and in turn, facilitate a high return of SEO investment. For starters, basic SEO works this way: companies […]

Maximize SEO in Indianapolis through Mobile-Responsive Website Design

by Joshua Roberson @ IndianapolisSEOFirm

Search engine optimization is important for a business website to earn high rankings in search engines and increase its online visibility. Emily Carter of Business 2 Community, however, emphasizes that SEO efforts should go hand in hand with quality content. “Content creation and Search Engine Optimization (SEO) are so closely related that they might as well be brother and sister. Having a content marketing strategy is so important for search engine rankings. These days, you cannot have one without the other.” A well-focused angle is critical to having top-notch web content. Online users are likely to turn away when articles or blog posts tackle a smorgasboard of unrelated ideas, like the upcoming Shamrock Run & Walk event in Downtown Indianapolis and Black Friday. Still, how helpful will well-focused content be to SEO in Indianapolis if users are not able to view text or images ideally when they use their mobile devices to browse the website, and, instead, get distorted text or images? Another bad thing that can happen is that the website won’t load in smartphones or tablets at all. If these users have a bad experience with a website because it isn’t mobile-optimized, they are likely to turn away […]

Beginner’s Guide to Home Theater

by Chris Claghorn @ ITI – Indiana Technical Installations

Beginner’s Guide to Home Theater A home theater can be as basic as two or three A/V gadgets in your family room or as mind-boggling as a totally redesigned storm cellar intended to resemble Grauman’s Chinese Theater. At its center, a home theater framework ought to give an astounding video experience and immersive sound that will bring your most loved films to life. This article offers a general outline of the fundamental home theater components and how they work together. Choose the right display for Your Home Theater When you imagine a theater-like video experience, you most likely think first about a projector and a giant movie screen. That is absolutely the display of choice in the model home theater. The two-piece setup is most appropriate for a devoted theater room, in which you can totally control the lighting. Projectors aren’t exclusively for the rich and famous. For the best screen-size-to-price proportion. Sony, JVC, and Optoma offer mid-level projectors which fall in the $2,000 to $10,000 value range, while Epson, Panasonic, and Sanyo offer excellent entry level projectors. Concerning the projection screen, you can pick between fixed-mount, pull-up/pull-down, or mechanized screens, and most screen producers offer a wide assortment of screen materials to suit diverse projectors and situations. You likewise need to consider what screen shape you need: Do you need a standard 16:9 screen that is ideal for High Definition or a 2.35:1 screen that gives you a chance to watch CinemaScope motion pictures without black bars. Another alternative is to use curtains to tailor the screen shape to suit every source. A dazzling theater does not require a two-piece system. Flat screen TVs are widely used in home entertainment. As the price continues to go down you can now get a much larger screen for your cash. Whether you put top dollar in an 85-inch screen or run with a more unobtrusive 50-inch screen, a flat panel HDTV can create an effective home theater framework, and the advantage is that you can watch it in a wide range of lighting conditions. Previously, most analysts would guide you toward plasma HDTVs to get the best home theater execution. LCD HDTVs were once viewed as bright room displays and have made great advancements in performance. LED HDTVs have taken displays to a new level. With local dimming and 120Hz/240Hz refresh rates, LED televisions have improved on restrictions in black level and motion blurring. Top names in LCD and LED televisions include Samsung, Sony, Toshiba, LG, and Sharp. Presently, 3D is a hot trend in HDTV technology. Most top manufacturers have no less than one line of 3D-competent models. These TVs require the utilization of unique dynamic shade 3D glasses. 3D HDTVs are typically the top-end models in every company’s line and in this manner cost more than comparable non-3D alternatives. In the event that you put resources into a 3D-capable TV, you will likewise require a 3D-fit Blu-ray player to watch 3D motion pictures.   Bring Movies to Life with Incredible Sound The component that will take a good theater to new heights is incredible sound. Audio that comes from every direction in your theater with clarity and powerful bass is essential to creating that big movie theater experience in your home setup. Basic surround sound includes 5.1 channel setup. This system includes 5 speakers, one each for the front left, front right, back right, back left and front center positions while the .1 designates a subwoofer that delivers the roaring bass for blasts and other low-end impacts. Some home theater installers suggest a 5.2-channel framework, with a second subwoofer that will provide smoother bass over a broader listening zone. By upgrading to a 7.1-channel setup, which adds two side-channel speakers, you will achieve a more robust surround sound experience. Speakers come in all shapes and sizes and can be towers, bookshelf, on-wall or in-wall models. Top manufacturers have perfected low-profile speakers that are high on execution – Generally, the recommendation is the smaller the speakers, the more worthwhile it is to add a subwoofer to fill in the low end. If you’re building a committed theater room, you have more flexibility to pick the precise speakers you need and can place them in the perfect positions to get the best execution. If you need to integrate your theater into a current living or family room, you may not have as many options to position speakers for their optimal performance. Alternately maybe you (or your loved one) simply don’t care for messing the room with speakers. All things considered, in-wall or in-ceiling speakers might be exactly what the home theater fan ordered. On the off chance that you like the thought of surround sound but can’t figure out how to fit a multichannel speaker structure into your room, the soundbar has turned into a well-known arrangement. A soundbar consolidates numerous speaker channels into a solitary speaker bar that mounts above or underneath your TV. These soundbars use acoustic control to make a feeling of surround envelopment through advanced sound bouncing and dividers. This arrangement by and large doesn’t offer the exact impact and higher-end execution you can get from isolated speakers, however, it’s a decent small room or condo solution. It’s likewise an incredible choice for one who is troubled by the nature of their TV speakers and needs an overhaul in sound quality. Once you’ve collected all of your home theater components, you’ll likely need to put resources into   controlling them…that is unless you appreciate using five unique remotes just to watch a movie. A universal customized remote can make life easier for every user in the house. In the event that you have a simple home theater, you may get by with a simple remote that controls a modest bunch of gadgets and has the ability to customize buttons to your own needs. URC MX-450 and Logitech/Harmony are a few remotes that can be customized to control basic theater setups. More advanced controllers like those from Control 4

Social Media Marketing in Indianapolis: Basic Internet Rules Apply

by Joshua Roberson @ IndianapolisSEOFirm

Social media is acknowledged to be a convenient and very accessible way to network with friends and strangers alike. In the case of businesses, it is an ocean of opportunities that companies must try to comprehend to be able to tap for marketing purposes. Social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter have millions of subscribers, most—if not all—of whom can be considered potential customers for a product or service. While these sites provide utmost convenience in publishing content with one click and in promoting without charge to a wide margin of people, rules do exist to control their use as an advertising channel. In addition, these sites reside within the Internet environment, which has a preset system of doing things. Businesses need planning and guidance from online marketing specialists like Indy SEO Firm if they’re thinking of creating a credible and effective Internet marketing strategy. An article written by Jeff Bullas for the Business 2 Community website defines the advantages and challenges of social media marketing that companies should be aware of. Taking a quote from Steve Jobs, Bullas states that the basis of social media revolves around three simple components: “It’s unrivalled power to publish, market and communicate to […]

Security Insurance Savings

by Chris Claghorn @ ITI – Indiana Technical Installations

Security Insurance Savings FBI statistics for 2013 indicate a burglary occurs approximately every 16 seconds in the U.S., and homes with a security system are three times less likely to be burglarized than homes that do not have security systems. According to the NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) a structure fire was reported every 65 seconds in 2013 with $9.5 billion dollars in property loss reported, 2,855 civilian deaths and 14,075 civilian injuries. Indiana Technical Installations suggests homeowners take advantage of a monitored home security system for fire and intrusion.  The safety features and peace of mind provided are priceless. The emotional strain caused by catastrophic events like home invasions, burglaries and fires can have a profound effect on your family, especially children. ITI reminds you that the best way to deal with such events is to prevent them from materializing in the first place. An expertly monitored security system will add a layer of protection to your home, creating a safer situation for your family. Insurance companies know monitored systems reduce the probability of your home being burglarized or costly damage occurring due to water or fire. With less chance of you filing a claim, the insurance company will pass premium savings on to you. In fact, a monitored security system in your home can reduce your homeowner’s insurance up to 20 percent on average. Often, homeowner’s insurance is rolled into your mortgage. Because you’re not writing a check for it every month, you might not know what the cost actually is to you or how much you might save by getting a monitored home security system. You’re already facing a lot of expenses as a homeowner; ITI thinks you should save money where you can, especially if it helps keep you safe. Get a no-obligations quote on a monitored home security system from Indiana Technical Installations call 260-824-2488 or email info@ititech.biz.

Indianapolis Internet Marketing Professionals Discuss SEO Red Flags

by Joshua Roberson @ IndianapolisSEOFirm

There isn’t a business website that doesn’t want to be Number One on search engine results relating to their products and services. Sometimes, however, this leads to some businesses relying on questionable means to achieving that spot; such means could earn them penalties─ if not an outright ban─ from major search engines like Google. An About.com article by researcher Marziah Karch advises Indianapolis internet marketing professionals on what could lead to penalties and bans: “1. Cloaking You can design your website to be efficiently catalogued by Google, and you can specify which sites should be cached or ignored by Googlebots. Designing your Web site so that search engines see one thing and visitors see totally different content is called cloaking. This can be done with redirects or with programming, and it’s strictly verboten.” No likes falling for bait-and-switch tactics. It doesn’t matter if you think you’ll never be caught or if you think cloaking will give you any kind of edge over the competition; any surge in rankings you might enjoy will ultimately prove temporary, and that’s why experts from the likes of Indianapolis SEO Firm discourage cloaking. The second thing on Karch’s list of things to avoid is duplicate […]

2014 Indianapolis Website Design Shifts: How Businesses can Keep Up

by Joshua Roberson @ IndianapolisSEOFirm

The world of online marketing is constantly evolving, and so have the various online marketing techniques, notably, in the field of search engine optimization or SEO. Keyword-optimizing one’s business website helps keep it visible to potential customers in the midst of the continuous stream of online traffic. However, directing consumer traffic to a website is one thing – it is quite another to keep them interested long enough to convert them into paying customers. The year 2014 brings in a new set of trends in web design for Indianapolis businesses and elsewhere, as forecasted in an online article in Buiness2community.com. The focus of such innovations are the following: “Fixed navigations: You simply need to be able to navigate your way around without getting a migraine. The fixed navigation toolbar has become a must have feature for 2014. Newsletters: This design is vital for the email marketing strategy. It is cool to see that this area of design has been tweaked into a usable piece of interface. You can get so much information onto a single page and the real juicy stuff is a click away from your potential audience. Presentation videos: A short movie clip is the way to go […]

What Can I Do To Safeguard My Data and My Family?

by Chris Claghorn @ ITI – Indiana Technical Installations

What Can I Do To Safeguard My Data and My Family? With so many seemingly evil people and programs floating around the internet, you may be finding yourself in confusing and perplexing situation. How do I protect myself from these intruders? Often times the easiest, best, and cheapest way to protect your computer is to be careful and cautious on the internet. Don’t click on what you aren’t sure about. Don’t look up seemingly casual things, like puppies, and expect all websites you would click on to be safe. In fact, greeting card websites are known to be the most faked, and most likely website to give you an infection, who would have thought? Beyond being smart, what about when you can’t control where you go? What if Facebook itself gives can easily lead to infections (true) or if you need a download to run your program and you don’t know where to get it? The simple answer for that is that you need security. With an average of 378 Million cyber CRIMES per year, that’s over 1 million per day. More than likely, you will be infected at some point, but will you be ready? AVG, Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE), Avast, and similar “free” antivirus companies, may offer you free software, but they rarely update their software, or their virus finding files. When they do, they are often incomplete and still missing thousands of the known attack software currently on the web. They simply just can’t keep up. There are many companies, Webroot, Kaspersky, Norton, McAfee, that their sole job is to find these infections and destroy them before it effects your daily life. These companies are professional and are proven to be FAR more effective than “free” antivirus software. At ITI, we recommend Webroot for Home and Business security solutions. Webroot is currently the leading Anti-Virus and Anti-Malware Company, and the only AV business to achieve an Edison “Personal Safety” award for being so effective on computers and mobile devices. Their super lite and advanced algorithms, keep your computer running quickly, while still keeping it 100% Malware free. Whether you are looking to just browse the internet or run your business, security is now of top importance. Make sure you have a game plan for infections, and a process to ward them off. Otherwise, you may be a number in the 378 Million+ attacks estimated for 2015.

First Impressions Matter: SEO Tips for Indianapolis Web Design Experts

by Joshua Roberson @ IndianapolisSEOFirm

Many business websites today─ especially those of businesses based in Indianapolis─ maintain blogs that provide useful information on their products and services. No one will find these blogs, however, if the website has not been properly search engine optimized. That’s why a Hongkiat.com article by blogger Issac Atia educates Indianapolis web design professionals on what to avoid: “1. Buying Links You might get a short term boost by buying links if your website is already popular, but you’re still taking a risk here. Paid links are sometimes flagged by Google’s search engine experts. You may wonder, how will they ever catch me? Well, Google’s bots and a special team at the company search for questionable linking patterns every single day!” Said bots and special team can detect suspicious links, especially those from categories that have nothing to do with the end site’s products or services. Indianapolis web development experts agree, however, that link buying shouldn’t be completely discouraged. Rather, those who insist on pursuing it should learn to inject variety into their anchor text. As important as content is, Atia also advises against neglecting a website’s looks. First impressions are often lasting ones, and if your website is an eyesore […]

Working with an Indianapolis Web Design Firm to Upgrade the Business

by Joshua Roberson @ IndianapolisSEOFirm

Conventional wisdom would tell you that the biggest enterprises in the world should have the largest manpower, follow the best business models, and employ the latest technologies in their respective industries. Surprisingly, the truth is a bit off the mark as it’s been discovered that only two FTSE100 companies have a responsive web design—a feature that is endorsed by nearly all website design authorities today. Online publication The Drum also revealed that only 42 of these 100 big enterprises have a mobile website. So how come even the best companies don’t have the latest internet assets at their disposal, such as a responsive website? Well, there are actually plenty of reasons why a responsive web design hasn’t clicked, and the biggest one is that not everyone knows what it is. In layman’s terms, a responsive web design allows a website to seamlessly change itself according to how the user manipulates the web browser. For example, if the browser is enlarged, the website should follow suit and rearrange its images, graphics, and other elements in an intuitive manner that they don’t become a tangled mess. A responsive web design is one of the things reputable Indianapolis web design firms, like Indy […]

SSL Certificate Benefits

by Chris Claghorn @ ITI – Indiana Technical Installations

Having an SSL Certificate Benefits SEO Google has officially announced that having an SSL Certificate for your website will help it rank better within organic search results. Google says that having an SSL Certificate for your website will give it a small ranking benefit.  At the moment, it won’t give you a huge advantage over your non-secure competition but in the future Google will entertain the idea of giving secure website a greater ranking boosts as more sites adopt HTTPS. Why Does Google Care About SSL Certificates? Google has become a huge internet authority. They’re taking this opportunity to convince website owners to make their websites more secure. Okay, SSL Certificates Are Important, But What Are They? Simply put, an SSL certificate encrypts the back-and-forth communication between a website and its visitors.  Without an SSL certificate, all information being transferred to and from a website is sent as plain text and can be read by anyone with the appropriate software within your network, at your internet provider, or on the web server’s network. One easy way to tell if a website is behind an SSL Certificate is to look for https:// (instead of http://) when visiting a website, or to look for some form of lock icon to the left of the link in your browsers address bar. FYI, the S in HTTPS refers to secure. How Do I Get One For My Website? Contact your web host to purchase one for your site. Once it is activated you can then setup redirect rules for your server. This way you will not lose or slow down any current traffic. Some 3rd party services that are already embedded in your site may not be currently supported. Mobilegeddon…Is your site ready?

by Chris Claghorn @ ITI – Indiana Technical Installations

Mobilegeddon…Is your site ready? On April 21, 2015, Google released a significant new mobile-friendly ranking algorithm that’s designed to give a boost to mobile-friendly pages in Google’s mobile search results. When you search Google on a mobile device, any website that is not mobile-friendly will be harder to find. One of the best ways to prepare is to test that Google considers your web pages to be mobile-friendly by using its Mobile-Friendly Test tool. This tool will let you know what item(s) that may need to be addressed for your site no to lose it’s current rankings. Around 30% of all web traffic now originates on a mobile device rather than a desktop machine, with many sources predicting that mobile internet use will eventually overtake desktop use. As mobile browsing becomes more common, Google is trying to ensure that its search engine continues to find sites that are relevant to its users. So this change is essentially about maintaining the quality of Google’s search results. But because the mobile test is design related rather than content related, it also means that one site can potentially be ranked more highly than another even if its content is less relevant. Organizations with older websites, or those which have not been designed to be mobile friendly, may find that making their web sites mobile friendly is not a trivial undertaking. For many, this will mean making a decision between spending money on upgrading the web site, or suffering a lower page rank on Google. If you discover that your web site does not pass Google’s latest rule and would like a free estimate to convert your current site, give us a call or contact us via email at info@ititech.biz.
